On Saturday the 15th of April we would like to invite you to the screening of Petropresents cycle 2023 – Homeland (Iraq Year Zero).

Homeland (Iraq Year Zero) directed by Abbas Fahdel is a 2015 Iraqi-French documentary that explains the impact of the war in Iraq on people and their daily lives. The film also reminds us that behind every war conflict there are human fates and tragedies.Divided into two parts – „Before the Fall“ and „After the Battle“ – the film depicts the life of two families in Baghdad before and after the American invasion in 2003.

The film was produced over the course of several years, with a minimal budget and a small crew. It premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2015, where it received critical acclaim and won the top prize in the „Critic’s Week“ section.

In all of his documentaries, Iraqi-French director, scriptwriter and film critic Abbas Fahdel captures the atmosphere in Iraq both under the dictatorship and during the US occupation. Homeland (Iraq Year Zero) won the International Feature Film Competition at Visions du Réel.

Petrohradská kolektiv presents their own curated selection of the best of independent world cinema, curated by screenwriter and film critic Christopher Small.

It is a selection of films of various formats and sizes. Authors who often received no or minimal attention in the Czech environment in contrast to success abroad.

The opening screening is with an introductory word of the curator.
