We started the series of screensavers called “Blind Visions” with the theme of extractivism in the work of the Serbian artist Vladan Jolelr called “New Extractivism”. This artist, together with Kate Crawford, an eminent researcher in the field of artificial intelligence and its impact, worked on the topic of artificial intelligence through a case study of the “Amazon Echo” device in the work “Anatomy of an AI system” as an uncovering of the hidden infrastructures behind the appealing and almost magical-looking voice interface. With practices of extraction and exploitation in digital environments, we also conclude the “Blind Visions” series. “The Hidden Life of an Amazon User” by artist and researcher Joana Moll is an explicit commentary on the extraction of data in the digital environment by transnational corporations, here also specifically Amazon.
In this work, the user witnesses unseen and obscured processes and delegated energy costs that are only revealed by their own physical energy and the electricity of their household. Joana Moll thus comments on the “attractive interface […]” of a corporation that uses aggressive business models and personalized user experiences. “These interfaces obfuscate sophisticated business models embedded in endless pages of indecipherable code, all of which are activated by user labor.” [Moll. 2019]
Obfuscation and extraction, whether at the level of user interaction or at the level of natural resources, is a reality of the digitally constructed presence of the early 21st century. The interpretation and description of reality through digital means has far-reaching implications for the socio-economic spheres of every ‘user’ of today’s world.

Začali jsme sérii spořičů obrazovky „Blind Visions“ (Slepé vize) tématem extraktivismu v díle srbského umělce Vladana Jolerа s názvem „Nový extraktivismus“. Tento umělec spolu s Kate Crawford, přední výzkumnicí v oblasti umělé inteligence a jejího dopadu, pracoval na tématu umělé inteligence prostřednictvím případové studie zařízení „Amazon Echo“ ve své práci „Anatomie systému AI“. Toto dílo odhaluje skryté infrastruktury stojící za lákavým a téměř magickým hlasovým rozhraním. Tématy extrakce a vykořisťování v digitálním prostředí také uzavíráme sérii „Blind Visions“. „Skrytý život uživatele Amazonu“ od umělkyně a výzkumnice Joany Moll. A je výmluvným komentářem k těžbě dat v digitálním prostředí nadnárodními korporacemi, konkrétně Amazonem.
V této práci je uživatel svědkem neviditelných a zastřených procesů a přenesených energetických nákladů, které jsou odhaleny pouze díky jeho vlastní fyzické energii a elektřině jeho domácnosti. Joana Moll tímto způsobem komentuje „atraktivní rozhraní […]“ korporace, která využívá agresivní obchodní modely a personalizované uživatelské zážitky. „Tato rozhraní zatemňují sofistikované obchodní modely, které jsou ukryty v nekonečných stránkách nečitelných kódů, z nichž všechny jsou aktivovány prací uživatele.“ [Moll, 2019]
Zatemňování a extrakce, ať už na úrovni interakce uživatele, nebo na úrovni přírodních zdrojů, jsou realitou digitálně konstruované přítomnosti počátku 21. století. Interpretace a popis reality prostřednictvím digitálních prostředků má dalekosáhlé důsledky pro socioekonomické sféry každého „uživatele“ dnešního světa.
Tato výstava je součástí série spořičů obrazovky na téma „Blind Visions“, která si klade za cíl zkoumat široký fenomén digitálně konstruovaných a vypočítaných obrazů a vhledů.
