Martina Žáka’s work is an extensive sculptural poem, a delicate statement about the body as a symbol, the body as a universal point of contact between the external and internal, culture and nature. The field of the body becomes a place of subtle, unifying prayers, meditations on the state of the subject in the environment. Each figure breathes, tactically appears before the eyes of the perceiver, takes on form and essence, longingly emerges from the world of non-concrete myth. They are characterized by their own ecstatic transcendence, external to consciousness itself. They stretch beyond their solid epic classification – the sculptures vibrate with the vitality that trembles with tension between curve and gesture, shape and material, the creative process of subject formation and its definition. The individual figures emerge from the chaos of the world to testify to their own capacity for constant creation, in interaction with light, space, and the ephemeral collectivity within the exhibition as a whole.
